A man !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! from Allentown, PA back home to St. Augustine, FL attempted to board the flight with a replica RPG in his checked baggage, according to the TSA. The unidentified man was stopped and questioned, and admitted that he thought he could fly with the disassembled prop in his checked luggage. Upon determining that the RPG was in fact inert, the man was allowed to board the flight to Orlando Sanford International Airport, though the gren ade launcher was confiscated.

Should have just sent it FedEx, guy; probably would have cost less than checking it. Still, that’s going to look bitchin’ in the Allentown TSA’s Prohibited/Seized items display...

Nothing like trying to board an airplane with the preferred weapon of jihadis everywhere. That’s as recognizable as an AK.

Hey, I live in Allentown! I work about 2 miles from that airport. I didn't see anything about it on our local news.

I got it from the Pittsburgh NBC affiliate, who got it from an ABC affiliate in Florida...

Interesting. Pittsburgh is not at all close to here. The LV is mainly in the Philly TV market but we also get NYC stations. Pittsburgh feels like it’s a whole state away from here.

WPXI is very good at lifting other stations’ stories that have either Pittsburgh or Pennsylvania connections, no matter how tenuous. It’s even more fun since there is an Allentown neighborhood here, so it’s always a “Wait, what?” until it’s clarified that they’re talking about the other  Allentown.

He must have gotten the same e-mail flyer I got.  I’m pretty sure I know where he bought it.

Heard about it on Fox Business news. Several other articles too.

Once they’d identified it as a prop, why not?

I don’t see any problems here what so ever.

A) it’s not real

B) you can check weapons at airport.*

C) Traveling from where guns are legal to where guns are legal.

*Grenade launchers, tomahawk guided missiles and A brams tanks might be exceptions, but they don’t state that. I think they confiscated it for display purposes.

Right? I get the biggest hassle trying to fly with my ES grizzly, even when I have my doctor’s note:

As I understand it, TSA regs say no weapons; props, replicas, demilled, in pieces, doesn’t matter. Dunno what damage they think a grenade-shaped lump of urethane foam is going to do, especially from the (inaccessible ) cargo hold, but there we are.

Well TSA *is* all about security theater , so getting worked up about props would be appropriate, I guess.

Provided you comply with the TSA guidelines , and the airline doesn’t have any prohibitions against it, yes:

Interestingly, realistic firearms replicas are marked as an unqualified YES in checked baggage; maybe a RPG replica falls under the hard NO for rocket launchers.
